A Q&A with Glasswall’s Chris Wyman - Glasswall US sales director

Q1 - Can you tell us about your career background and what led you to join Glasswall?

My career background has always been at the intersection of technology and business. I started in engineering and technical support and then slowly moved to sales engineering and then account management. I’ve always worked for OEMs. Being able to deep dive into the technology helps me better understand our competitive advantages and value proposition. I can then translate this into helping articulate customer use cases as well as the user experience.

Q2 - What excites you most about working in the cybersecurity industry?

Supporting our customer’s mission. The US federal government is under attack constantly.  Our adversaries want access to our country’s secrets and that includes policy and technological innovation. Our role is to support their efforts to protect these secrets and help them execute their mission to help educate, protect and serve citizens. This motivates me every day.

Q3 - What are your goals for Glasswall as we continue to grow in the US?

My goal is to grow the business, but we also recognize that it doesn’t happen overnight – it is a process. We will accomplish this by increasing awareness and educating our customers and partners on the value we bring to securing the organization. I’m also focused on amplifying the message of what CDR technology is and the use cases we support to increase the security posture of any organization.

Q4 - What do you see as the biggest challenges and opportunities for cybersecurity vendors in the current market?

Challenges are that we always appear to be chasing the bad actors. Whenever one challenge is addressed, another one pops up, so the cycle is never-ending, and some days, it feels like ‘whack-a-mole”. What’s more, advances in AI and advanced processing power will bring both opportunities and challenges. As a result, I see the threat landscape continuing to evolve with both speed and creativity to circumvent defenses.

Q5 - Where do you see the industry heading over the next 3-5 years?

That can be hard to predict, given how quickly technology changes. But I do know this: cybersecurity will still be at the top of everyone’s mind.  Bad actors and malware are never going away, and the industry will be continually challenged to respond and defend at a faster pace.

Q6 - Outside of work, how do you like to spend your spare time?

I enjoy spending time with family and friends. We like to travel locally and take in some of the events around the DMV. This area has so much to offer in terms of culture, sports and entertainment.  We’ve seen the Nationals and Capitals and have attended the Citi Open tennis tournament the last few years. I try to keep up with playing tennis with my youngest son – I played as a junior, but I realize I’ve lost a few steps, and now, I mostly watch him compete. My older son completed his computer science degree and is now working in IT, so it’s nice to see his passion for the industry. I learn so much from him now instead of the other way around. I also take an annual golf trip with my college friends. It’s nice to catch up and discuss our lives, careers and families, as we’ve done this for almost 30 years now.
