The Department of Energy (DOE) is tasked with evolving the US national energy policy, managing nuclear materials, promoting energy security and clean energy innovation, and ensuring scientific research and development in physics, materials, computational science, and environmental resilience.
Part of its work involves overseeing a system of national laboratories that develop new technologies, provide infrastructure for scientific experiments, support national security, and ensure energy grid reliability. These organizations rely on strict cross-domain technology solutions (CDS) to move data securely between high-side and low-side networks. With the nation’s energy infrastructure under constant threat, the labs require cutting-edge cyber capabilities to safeguard data from bad actors at home and abroad.
One of the DOE’s internationally renowned labs was seeking a secure, Raise The Bar (RTB)-compliant file cleaning capability with a policy enforcement mechanism to move files from classified (high) to unclassified (low) environments. Assurance of clean, safe files was critical to the choice of solution, which also needed to be lightweight and offer an easy-to-use UI for its team of users.
