Rounds 6 & 7 of the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB took place at the Croft Race Circuit, North Yorkshire at the weekend, in front of a capacity crowd with Glasswall CFO, Steve Roberts, continuing to make rapid progress in the category.
In an extremely tight qualifying session on the Saturday afternoon, Steve put in a late flying lap to jump to the top of the timesheets to secure his first pole position in the Porsche by 0.2 seconds.
Steve then made a great start to race 1 and led the field for the first two thirds of the race, setting the fastest lap in the process. However, Steve came under pressure from the 2nd place driver in the late stages of the race. Unfortunately, the other driver went for an ambitious overtake and contact was made, spinning both Steve and the other driver off the circuit. Steve rejoined and managed to finish the race in 2nd position, with the other driver retiring with damage.
Race 2 was a more straightforward affair with Steve starting P2, from which he pressured the leader throughout, but was unfortunately not able to find a way past, finishing 0.3 seconds behind at the flag.
During his post-race interview, Steve commented “it’s been a great weekend pace-wise, and it was great to put the Glasswall Porsche on pole position for the first time. I thought I’d get my first win in the championship this weekend, but we’ll have to wait for the next races at Oulton Park in a couple of weeks for that. Redline Racing did a fantastic job as always, we have taken another step forward and are moving up the championship table! A massive thanks to the team, Glasswall, Absolute and all my family and friends for the continued support”
Steve will be back in action again for Rounds 8 & 9 of the Championship at Oulton Park, Cheshire on Saturday July 9th.
